Hicksville, NY -
After a two year hiatus, the Gamers, Long Island's premiere softball team, will be returning to live game action when they take on "Just The Tip" on Field D at Cantiague Park in Hicksville.
The game was originally scheduled to take place at Stokes Elementary School in Levittown but officials from ABA decided to move the game to Cantiague Park in order to accomodate the record setting crowd that is expected on hand to witness the Gamers return.
Four original members of the team will be on hand including star outfielder Dave Roll who will be ending his two year self imposed softball strike as he hasn't played in a single softball game since the Gamers last took the field. Obviously a hunger strike was never an option.
Expectations are running high for the Gamers this season especially after news late Friday night that they had signed Jimmy and Eric Dundon at the last minute to provide some extra pop in the lineup. However, enthusiam should be tempered since Jimmy will not be in the lineup this week since he could not complete his physical in time.
Also out of the lineup will be slugging 1B Seth Koslow, outfielder Brian Malfettone and infielder Tom McGrath who might be out for a while with a back injury. Despite those key losses the Gamers lineup will still be stacked from top to bottom including the long awaiting debuts for star shortstop Adam Goldberg, third baseman Danny Ballestas and first baseman Jon Zafonte.
The outcome of these games are far from being determined but one thing is for sure. The Gamers are back!!!
